To celebrate this 20-year milestone in their renewable energy journey, a celebratory gala lunch was held at Queens University Belfast, which was addressed by keynote speaker Richard Rodgers, Head of Energy with the Department for the Economy NI. The event was sponsored by A&L Goodbody who have provided over 20 years of guidance and support to the organisation, providing clients with renewable energy advice and legal expertise. The event was attended by clients and key personnel within the Energy sector of Northern Ireland.
Action Renewables, a Northern Ireland registered charity, have come a long way since their inception in 2003. Relatively little was known about either climate change or renewable energy back then. Roll on 20 years and the charity has grown to a staff of 30 people based off Boucher Road in Belfast. The company is taking on their own obligations to reduce their carbon footprint through the recent installation of Solar PV to the roof of their Headquarters in Belfast, which has already seen a CO2 saving of 5.95 tonnes since March this year.
The team at Action Renewables are experts in the sector, with several staff working for them from the outset, providing invaluable knowledge, experience, and consultancy to a wide range of businesses across the Island.
Chief Executive Officer Terry Waugh said “Our work over the past 20 years has been responsible for some pioneering research particularly into the use of Hydrogen, and other renewable energies. This celebratory event has been a great success not only for us but for the Energy sector as a whole. It was wonderful to connect in person with industry leaders and forge new opportunities with each other, which will ultimately impact on climate change within Northern Ireland. It has been a wonderful occasion”.
Mark Stockdale, Partner at A&L Goodbody reflected on the firm’s journey with Action Renewables as its legal advisor for the past 20 years. Mark said, “We have been proud to walk alongside both the charity and its trading arm through many challenges and opportunities, and to witness the remarkable impact they have had in the renewable energy space in Northern Ireland and beyond.”
